Guild activities at each meeting
Each of these activities is the result of the hard work of guild members. Want to help out with one of these committees? Speak to those at the activities’ table and let them know. There is always plenty of room for new volunteers!
Block of the month: This year, we will be offering four seasonal table runner patterns to get your creativity flowing! Each kit will include the pattern with focus and or background fabric. You will again be able to use your own favorite fabrics and color palette like you have been the last two years. Pre-payment for the year is $20. Cash or checks made out to “QUILT North” are accepted as you sign up. The fall runner pattern was ready in October; the winter runner pattern will be ready in November; the spring runner pattern will be ready in February; the summer runner pattern will be ready in April.
Opportunity chances: A dollar will give you one opportunity (ticket) to win a prize of your choice.
Library: Borrow and/or donate quilting and quilt-related books. Also, if you have any tools you no longer want or use that often, bring them in and donate them to the library so members can try them out. Click here to visit the Quilt North Library online.
Name tag drawing: Members are asked to wear own, personally-made cloth name tags. At the end of the meeting, a name is drawn from the member list and the winner receives a gift certificate to a local quilt shop, but ONLY IF they are present and wearing their name tag. This drawing starts at the October meeting to give our new members a chance to make theirs.
Comfort quilts: One of the ongoing efforts of the guild is to provide completed quilts to organizations in the region working with children and families in need. More details are available on the comfort quilt page. A total of 129 quilts were distributed during the 2016-2017 guild year.
Fabric swap: New this year – Interested in building your fabric stash this year? Bring 30 6 1/2 inch squares of fabric, all cut from the same fabric. Please use quilt-store quality, 100% cotton fabric, cut and put in a clear one gallon size zip top bag with your name on it. During the meeting, we will separate and distribute them evenly, so you will receive them back that night. If you leave a meeting early, we can give a friend your bag or you can pick it up the next month. Here are the themes for the rest of the guild year:
November – Red and green or Christmas fabrics
No swaps in December or January
February – Reds or pinks or Valentine fabric
March – Greens
April – Spring flower fabrics
May – Batiks
June – Greys.
Freebies: Do you have some quilting items that you would like to give away (because who could throw these things out)? Then our freebie table is just the place. Just remember to bring home anything that wasn’t taken.
Guild ambassadors: Guild ambassadors are available to welcome and help new members and visitors navigate their first meetings.
Meeting sign-in: Membership sign in tables are now at the front (main) entrance of the church and in the Fellowship Hall. As we did last year, when you register at the meetings and you have your name tag, all you need to do is pull your name tab off along the perforated line on the Registration Sheet and place your name in the basket provided to ensure that you have been placed in the name tag drawing for that particular night. If you do not have your name tag with you, do not pull the tab — just place a check next to your name.
Show and tell: Bring up to two items to share.
Sunshine and shadows: We would like to know about the joys and sorrows of our members so that we can acknowledge them. If you know a member that has suffered a loss or is in the hospital, for example, please tell Cindy Lanne, our corresponding secretary, or write to her using the contact page.
