Date change for January meeting

The January guild meeting is our annual charity workshop. Because of venue availability, we will be meeting TUESDAY, Jan. 6, not Monday, Jan. 5.

The workshop will be held at the Elks Lodge, 695 Mac Elroy Road, Ballston Lake (which is only about 10 minutes from Shenendehowa United Methodist Church). This is a new venue for us for workshops and has received rave reviews. Here’s a chance to check it out and work alongside other members making quilts that will be given to those in need.

Thank you from Maplewood Manor

Maplewood Manor sent the following thank-you note after the guild recently gave a donation of quilts and wheelchair caddies:
Dear ladies,
We are overwhelmed by your kindness & generosity. I’ve started handing out the quilts to some of our new admits, especially those that don’t have much. They have all been so grateful. You have all brought a lot of smiles to Maplewood.  The physical therapy department was overjoyed with the walker/wheelchair bags.
Again, thank you all so very much!

Charity update

It’s been a busy month for Charity. We donated quilts to Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services in Saratoga Springs, Captain, Best Buddies, Maplewood Manor and Quest for Grace.

We received more beautiful summer challenge blocks and tops last month. Pat Stata’s mini group made 25 caddies to give to Maplewood Manor.  Special thanks to Pat, Renate Wrafter, Ann Gheres, Diane Anuszewski, and Gladys Faulkner.

Thanks also to Sue Ahearn, who has helped me tremendously by cutting a huge fabric donation we received into tumblers and squares.

Thanks to Denise Danish, who came by and helped layer and pin lap quilts so members can just run them through their machines to quilt.

Please stop by the Charity table and pick up lap and wheelchair quilt kits for Christmas at Maplewood Manor. We will also need twin-size quilts for veterans, Camp Erin next year, CAPTAIN and Guardian House.

I also need someone to help us at the table during meetings. Please consider volunteering. Without your participation, there are no charity quilts!

Charity News

from Dayle Gruder

Welcome back, quilters! I hope you had a great summer!

Last year, we had a very successful year with charity quilts under Maria Newnham’s leadership. The Charity Committee donated 91 quilts in 2013-14. Our thanks to Maria for all her help. Thankfully, she continues to be an asset with Charity. Special thanks goes out to the participants of the summer workshop. I’ll be holding another one on National Quilting Day, Saturday, Oct. 25. Please sign up at the Charity table or call me at 664-5271.

Please return all completed Camp Erin quilts and other completed kits at the September meeting. Don’t forget your summer challenge blocks for the September meeting and return all projects that you took over the summer as soon as you can.

We need more volunteers! I need someone to deliver quilts once they’re completed and to store them in their homes until needed.

Thanks to everyone who has helped in any way!
