Charity News

from Dayle Gruder

Welcome back, quilters! I hope you had a great summer!

Last year, we had a very successful year with charity quilts under Maria Newnham’s leadership. The Charity Committee donated 91 quilts in 2013-14. Our thanks to Maria for all her help. Thankfully, she continues to be an asset with Charity. Special thanks goes out to the participants of the summer workshop. I’ll be holding another one on National Quilting Day, Saturday, Oct. 25. Please sign up at the Charity table or call me at 664-5271.

Please return all completed Camp Erin quilts and other completed kits at the September meeting. Don’t forget your summer challenge blocks for the September meeting and return all projects that you took over the summer as soon as you can.

We need more volunteers! I need someone to deliver quilts once they’re completed and to store them in their homes until needed.

Thanks to everyone who has helped in any way!

Condolences to Marti Kaupang, whose husband Bjorn passed away in August.

Block-of-the-Month: New for 2014-15!

autumnBOMYour block-of-the-month team has been working on a new project for 2014-15. This kit will be available at the September meeting and is the first in a series of four seasons. Each project will be a pieced basket with seasonal fusible applique, and borders and finishing instructions will be included.

We are only preparing 30 kits at a cost of $5 each, so purchase will be on a first-come, first-served basis. This year, we will not be collecting your blocks to raffle off. Instead, you get to keep your finished project!

So, be sure to pick up your autumn kit at the block-of-the-month table this September.

Thank you…

I would like to thank you for all your prayers during the two years my husband was receiving chemo treatments, and for all your cards and expressions of sympathy since his passing July 2.

Thank you and God bless,
Gladys Faulkner & family

From the Membership Chairs

1415member_registration_formMembership cards this year will only be created after members have paid their dues. Members who submit payment for yearly dues the night of the first meeting will be able to look for their membership cards at the next monthly meeting.

Thank you to those members who have paid their dues and sent an envelope; the line gets long the first couple of meeting nights and you will be able to go in and find a seat because you already have your membership card.

Harvest of Quilts XII Show

The Country Quilters Guild will host their Harvest of Quilts XII show, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 27-28, at Pine Bush High School. The theme of the show is “Kaleidoscope of Colors.” Admission is $6 for one day, or $10 for both days. Kids under 12 will be admitted for free.

The guest speaker is Paula Nadelstern, and the show will feature a gallery talk by local quilt historian Sharon Waddell. This NQA-judged show also includes quilts for sale, vendors, demonstrations, door prizes, a block contest, boutique, and AQS appraisals.

The guild will also hold a raffle to benefit Pine Bush HS scholarships. Prizes include a quilt, Quilters Attic gift certificate, and fabric basket. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase.
